The study investigates the use of dolomite sand waste as a filler or/and sand material plus BOF steel slag as a fine and coarse aggregate for the design of high performance asphalt concrete. Various combinations of steel slag, dolomite sand waste and conventional aggregates were used to develop AC 11 asphalt concrete mixtures.

Unlike recycled cold asphalt mixes, cold asphalt mixes use aggregates and bitumen. Mix Types Primarily two types of cold asphalt mixes are used: Dense graded and Open graded. Dense graded mixes are continuously graded from the maximum aggregate size down to material passing 0.075 mm sieve size.

Jun 15, 2009· Steel slag used in paving mixes should be limited to replace either the fine or coarse aggregate fraction, but not both, since hot mix asphalt containing steel slag is susceptible to high void space and bulking problems due to the angular shape of steel slag aggregate.

Slag Crusher Plant offered is used for crushing slag that is produced during smelting process through different processed applied in production.Slag in metals is present as form of undesired impurities at time of smelting which float to top in form of protective crust of oxides on top of metal being smelted, thus protecting liquid metal under it.

STEEL SLAG User Guideline. Asphalt Concrete. INTRODUCTION. Steel slag can be processed into a coarse or fine aggregate material for use in dense- and open-graded hot mix asphalt concrete pavements (1,2,3), and in cold mix or surface treatment applications. (4) Proper processing of steel slag and special quality-control procedures are extremely important in selecting steel slag for use in ...

Granulated blast furnace slag fine aggregate 2.1 Steel furnace slag, both fine and coarse 3.2 Gravel Coarse Aggregates There is a specific requirement for gravel coarse aggregates regarding crushed particles. This requirement applies, however, only when gravel coarse aggregates are used in HMA, compacted aggregates, and asphalt

Steel slag can be used in the construction industry as aggregates in concrete by replacing natural aggregates. Natural aggregates are becoming increasingly scarce and their production and shipment is becoming more difficult. Steel slag is currently used as aggregate in hot mix asphalt surface applications, but there is a need for some

Abstract. Natural aggregates are becoming increasingly scarce and their production and shipment is becoming more difficult. Steel slag is currently used as aggregate in hot mix asphalt surface applications, but there is a need for some additional work to determine the feasibility of utilizing this industrial by-product more wisely as a replacement for both fine and coarse aggregates in a ...

The 2016 trial project included a one-mile trial section of hot-mix asphalt pavement constructed using steel slag aggregate as a replacement for 20 percent of the coarse aggregate in the HMA. The trial section was part of a project that improved five miles of SR 203 by grinding out the existing pavement and replacing it with new pavement.

The one-time cost of modifying an existing asphalt batch plant to do hot mix recycling in India is only 20 lakhs rupees. Besides huge savings in cost and earning carbon credits, we will also have to obtain less aggregate from our stone quarries and also will have .

Aug 03, 2020· A hot mix asphalt (HMA), which is typically used for roads and parking lots, is as much as 95 percent asphalt aggregate by weight. The majority of aggregate in the mix is usually coarse, or large in size, followed by crushed stone and gravel. The remaining aggregate .

1004.03 Coarse Aggregate for Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA). The aggregate shall be according to Article 1004.01 and the following. (a) Description. The coarse aggregate for HMA shall be according to the following table. Use Mixture Aggregates Allowed Class A Seal or Cover Allowed Alone or in Combination: Gravel. Crushed Gravel. Carbonate Crushed Stone

There are many steel-manufacturing factories in . All of their byproducts, steel slag, are dumped randomly in open areas, causing many environmentally hazardous problems. This research is intended to study the effectiveness of using steel slag aggregate (SSA) in improving the engineering properties, especially fatigue life of Asphalt Concrete (AC) produced with steel slag.

The mix is designed for M40 grade. First mix (Control mix 0 M 0) made of OPC as a binder and river sand, second mix (0 M 50) made of OPC and 50% slag aggregate and third mix (25 M 50) made of 25% OPC replaced by fly ash and 50% river sand replaced by slag aggregate. Mechanical and durability properties of all the three concretes are studied.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation's Use of Steel Slag Aggregate in Pavements report in 2015, a high iron oxide content in steel slag aggregates creates pavement that is both hard and dense, making it a superior choice over natural aggregates such as rocks in creating hot mix asphalt.. Also, when used in bituminous pavements, slag offers the advantages of high ...

conservation of natural aggregates. Use should be limited to hot-mix asphalt with laboratory testing required to assess the quality of the aggregate and its strength under repeated loads and moisture. All projects using steel slag aggregate should be classified as experimental.

EVALUATION OF STEEL SLAG FINE AGGREGATE IN HOT-MIX ASPHALT MIXTURES. Since a considerable amount of steel slag is produced in the southwestern part of Pennsylvania around Pittsburgh, where natural fine aggregate sources are limited, an evaluation was undertaken to determine the feasibility of using "cured" steel slag fine aggregate in hot-mix asphalt (HMA) mixtures.

Jun 06, 2019· Typically, aggregates used for asphalt mixtures consist mainly of natural aggregates such as crushed rock and gravel. Sometimes the natural aggregates are substituted with limited amounts of industrial by-products, such as Reclaimed Asphalt (RA), slag.
