My own feeling is that one of the mini-mills (Grizzly, Micro-Mark, etc.) would offer much greater mass and stability during use. This means heavier cutting on larger projects (as well as small).

To resolve this, I prefer to use 3/16" and 1/8" shank solid carbide boring bars as shown on the left in the second attached photo as compared to the supplied one on the right.
Mar 12, 2011· I have a sherline cnc mill and a taig cnc mill. I've been using them over 4 years now. As a machinist for 17 years, I have say, the taig machine outperformed the sherline. The taig is more sturdy, precision, able to cut more variety of materials, and will last a long time. Sherline could only perform light cut and small passes.
